“What is it?” This question often finds its way ‘wherever’ there is mention of Web Anlaytics. A novice would ask being inquisitive, while the average to the very-pro geeks on the other end, will look towards bringing up this phrase in some context (or another) and themselves attempt at answering it. By ‘wherever’, I am pointing at both the real world as well as the loads of formatted pages in the world wide web - better called the virtual world. The latter one is logically obvious. Without the three W’s, where will the essence of Web Analytics lie?

Like I had already mentioned, the inquisitive ones or rather the explorer kinds may try to quench their thirst by digging into the subject matter. The geeks (physically or virtually) would spring into action anytime to give out a brief to detailed view about the What, Why and How’s of Web Analytics.

But how often does one mention about the technologies and intricacies invloved with it? (Ok, some do talk about the technological aspects). If the word ‘intricacy’ lets anybody off, let me add another blow. There are challenges involved too. Well, what’s a job without challenges? Yet from the process of getting those hands dirty in those massive bytes of data to the stage of transforming the data to information keeps me going. The pleasure of seeing the raw data organized to change form into information ( law of thermodynamics applicable here too) which very soon boils down to knowledge, all from that website of your’s would really fascinate you.

From my own view on this, I have come towards evolving one of the most shortest possible definition for Web Analytics - “The synthesis of raw data to actionable reports”.
