Web Analytics Methodology

Nabler’s Web Analytics Service includes two distinct phases. The first phase is the Setup Phase, which is critical for the web analytics exercise. Once the Setup phase is complete, the project enters the second phase of Analysis. Analysis is an ongoing effort that involves monitoring, reporting, analyzing and optimizing.

Phase I – Setup

1. Technical

The web analytics tools must be decided on, procured and configured to meet the requirements of your organization. At times, the information obtained from the server would have to be modified. Modification of web pages to make them compliant with the web analytics tools would also be required as a part of this phase. In short, Nabler would help you to set up the infrastructure and put the systems in place during this stage.

2. Strategic

Part of the setup is about the strategic aspect of the website. We need to understand your objectives and goals before we start measuring. This follows a typical cycle of
Identifying business objectives > Identifying key actions that lead to the business objectives > Identifying metrics that would help us measure the key actions.

During this phase, we would need to meet up with your senior management to understand their perspective, goals and requirements. As part of the setup phase, we also determine the number of reports, recipients, frequency of reports, formats, etc.

Phase I could take anywhere between 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the complexity of the website that is to be analyzed. There could be companies who have in-house personnel to do the web traffic analysis. In that case, Nabler could do only the setup phase and then train the in-house staff to continue doing the routine analysis work.

Phase II – Continuous Monitoring, Reporting and Optimizing

This phase involves

  • Generating the reports that were decided during the Setup phase.
  • Analyzing the information contained in the reports.
  • Giving recommendations based on the analysis.
  • Optimizing the different aspects of the website to increase effectiveness.

Phase II would be an ongoing one, involving generation of reports and making modifications to the website based on these reports.

Depending on the extent of work involved, we might put dedicated people from our side to do the analysis. The exact nature of the engagement would vary from project to project.
