Editing Content

By Seby Kallarakkal
A large majority of the websites have content that are not written specifically for the web. Usually content is taken from a brochure, an e-mail or some other channel and pasted into a website. While using the existing content and editing it, the following principles need to be kept in mind:
Clarity
Most of the time, people are browsing and not reading. It is essential to communicate to the readers quickly and effectively.
Persuasiveness
If you would like to use your website as a client acquisition tool, the content on the site needs to be persuasive in nature. The website pages should end with a call to action.
Tone
The tone of content on your website should be consistent in nature. For example, we have decided to keep our content conversational as if we are speaking to you. But there could be sites where the tone is more formal. You could choose any tone that works for you, but the tone should be consistent across the site.
Correctness
Visitors are looking at clues on your website to evaluate your business. It is important to make sure that the content on your website is correct both in terms of information and language.
It is better to start editing the content on your website only after building a strategy for the content. Usually there may be a need to add new content along with editing content.
